Transfeminine indicates to a person who is transgender in the direction of femininity, or in expression of the self, but not necessarily a female. That means, a transfeminine person, often shortened as a 'transfemme', his/her/their true self is more aligned with femininity than is represented by the gender (male - in most cases) that was assigned to them at their birth.
Thus, most transfeminine people were assigned male at birth, and they have moved away from that 'incorrect assignment' towards femininity.
The term transfeminine also can refer to both transgender women and nonbinary people. Although having feminine gender identities, transfeminine people may prefer not to conform to stereotypical feminine gender expression or gender roles.
Transfeminine typically includes the following genders:
- Trans women
- Demi girls
- Multigender people (who identify themselves as female more than other genders)
- Gender fluid and demifluid people (who are, more often, feminine than other genders)
- Any other Non-binary person or people (who identify him/her/them as feminine more often than other genders)
The masculine equivalent of transfeminine is'Transmasculine' - which means a person was assigned female at birth, but identifies with masculinity rather than with femininity.
