Self-esteem is how you see yourself. It is what you feel or how you feel about yourself. You can also see self-esteem as your opinion of yourself.
People usually think that self-esteem is feeling good about yourself. This is partially true because self-esteem is much more than that. Self-esteem is mainly the feeling in your heart that you are happy with yourself. It comes with your acceptance of the type of person you are or you choose to be.
Also, self-esteem is about believing in yourself. It is also about having confidence in your true self. If you feel and believe that you have the ability to make choices you are proud of, and that even when you make mistakes, you are still worth loving, then it is a sure sign of self-esteem.
Many believe that there are two important components in self-esteem:
1. Knowing that you are able, and
2. Knowing that you are worthy

Why is self-esteem important?
Without self-esteem, you will not learn to care about yourself. You need to be caring to yourself, too. If you do not care about you, and if you do not value yourself, then you will soon start to give up on yourself along with all you care around you.
Healthy self-esteem teaches people to like themselves and value their achievements. People with low self-esteem feel unhappy or unsatisfied with themselves most of the time – if not all the time.
Having self-esteem is not being selfish or being rude to the people around you.
So, it is really very important to practice and earn healthy self-esteem to lead a positive and peaceful life.
