Extrapersonal communication refers to the communication that takes place between human beings and non-human entities. A common example of extrapersonal communication is a human’s interaction with their pet animal.
The word ‘extrapersonal’ means ‘outside of a person’. Thus, it indicates a communication between a human and a non-human animal.
Communication experts believe that this form of communication requires higher volume of coordination and understanding between the ‘sender’ and the ‘receiver’ - more than the volume required in any other forms. In this case, to be specific, this coordination and understanding is required in at least one of them.
